So, for most users it is very hard to keep up with what is going on in the back end world of cell phones and the technology behind them. Hopefully this will help bring a few people a little more up to date on what’s going on. Besides the fact that everyone now knows what the new IPhone will look like after the news of the stolen phone got out there is much more going on “behind the scenes”. Many people are still waiting for the IPhone to be able to support Flash video and technology from Adobe. Well, for those of you waiting don’t hold your breath. Steve Jobs announced that Apple will not allow the IPhone, IPod Touch, or IPad to support Flash or apps based on Flash technology. Steve gave several reasons why Apple would not support Flash including decreasing battery life; it’s not very good for multi-touch operation; and its performance, reliability and security are all shoddy. On the other hand, Google announced recently that their new Android 2.2 OS will support Flash. This will be the first mobile operating system to support Flash even though many mobile systems have tried before and fallen short. I don’t think the release of the new Android system supporting Flash will be enough to pull dedicated IPhone users away from current phones. Currently millions of apps are made for the Apple devices and growing everyday; while at the same time Apple is in the process of trying to trademark their official IPhone and IPad apps. Where are the other major players in the mobile jungle? Blackberry is desperatly trying to keep up while still marketing their phones towards mainly businessmen; Palm has recently put itself up for sale after not being able to stay competitive in this fast and ever changing market; and Microsoft based phones are in the process of going through some major overhauls to update themselves for placement back amongst the big players. With mobile technology changing so quickly around us it is amazing to watch where the next generation of mobile phones will take us or what they will be able to do for us. Are able to keep up?
